He could tell that Amy was annoyed, and to be honest Rory didn’t blame her - he was annoyed, too. Annoyed at the map. Annoyed at the Doctor. “No, I know where we’re going.” he reassured, although it was a straight out lie through his teeth. He’d be damned before he’d ever admit he was lost, especially in front of Amy.
Rory started to sigh as soon as she grabbed the map from him. He leaned over her shoulder, peering over at whatever she was pointing to.
“Wait…no, that’s wrong. You’re wrong, we’ve been there before.” he said, his forehead wrinkling together in frustration. “And we’re nowhere near that.”
When she handed the map back in his hands, he pointed back at the original destination that he thought was right. “It’s definitely here, which is - oh, it’s the exact opposite of where you want to go.” Rory felt the recoil of his words - maybe he shouldn’t have been so harsh. But the sooner they got home, the better.
Amy frowned, not in an unhappy way, in an angry sort of upset way. “I.am.not.wrong,” Amy said through gritted teeth. Oh honestly, he was just like any other typical bloke who thought that they knew where they were going. “Yes we are. See, we’re right here. Next to that big, boulder type thing,” Amy said, pointing at it on the map. Indeed they had passed some sort of boulder a little while ago. So she knew that they were in the right area that she had been pointing to.
Her eyes narrowed at him. Now he was purposefully trying to annoy her. Exact opposite way. Psh. Her way was the right way. “Listen here. I know where we’re going. The Doctor showed me on the map earlier. You just don’t like being wrong,” Amy said, poking him on the arm. Okay, so maybe she didn’t like being wrong too.
They were getting nowhere, doing this arguing back and forth. But she didn’t care. She just wanted to get back in the TARDIS where it was safe and she didn’t have to deal with getting lost like this. Not that she’d admit that they were lost. They weren’t. They just…didn’t know which way to get back where the TARDIS had landed.
Rory was practically seething with frustration, but he only gave a forced laugh.
“Except you are wrong.” Rory muttered, getting a bit annoyed at her now when they both knew they were lost. “This place is covered in boulders. I’ve seen three in the past fifteen minutes.”
Of course, Rory blamed everyone but himself for this whole fiasco. He blamed the planet. He blamed the Doctor for ever taking him and showing up at his stag party, he blamed whatever was behind Amy’s crack in her wall for bringing that mad man in the box down on that day. He blamed the planet, the bees-that-weren’t-actually-bees, the big boulder things. Anything but him.
“And I don’t mind being wrong.” Rory said, his voice a bit of a low grumble. “But I’m not wrong right now. I’m actually right. Let’s go this way.”
His fingers gripped to the (now very crinkled) map like it was a lifeline - not that it helped him in any way, it was written in a language that the TARDIS couldn’t pick up and translate in his head. The sun above the planet Prometheus was beginning to set, and darkness was quickly cover the tropical planet. What if they couldn’t make it back to the TARDIS before it got dark? What if they had to spend the night in this strange jungle, full of flowers and dangerous creatures?
As much as he hated to admit it, they were lost.
According to the Doctor, Prometheus was supposed to be a “lively little planet. A few civilizations - it’s mostly jungle on there. But there’s this species called the Holiere, they only live on this planet, and they’re kind of like bees except they’re made of pure light and they work as a collective-” There was probably more to it, but honestly, Rory lost focus there. What he conveniently forgot to tell them was that the map was some kind of circley-language that Rory had no idea how to read.
Was it possible to be multiple people at once? There was Centurion Rory - which he kept locked away for good reason -, Regular Rory, Army Rory (from their most recent adventure in the alternate universe where time stopped). Now, he felt like there was something new that he was being split into - Hopeless Rory. Rory who couldn’t even find his way back to the TARDIS. Daft, dopey Rory who couldn’t even read a map, who was just so beyond help and redemption and he kept making mistakes.
But maybe that Rory existed all along and he didn’t know it.
“I think it’s…this way.” Rory said absentmindedly, putting on a facade that he knew where he was going.
Amy and Rory had been left to wander on their own. More like Amy dragged Rory off to go explore. And now they were having trouble finding the TARDIS. She’d glanced at the map in Rory’s hands to try to read it. He wouldn’t give it to her though. Typical bloke, she thought. “Rory, just had me over the map. I’m sure I can figure out where to go,” Amy said, feeling a bit impatient. He didn’t seem to be listening though.
They were in a jungle and the only civilizations nearby weren’t nearby at all. And they were bees. Well, what the Doctor called bees to explain it to them easier. They hadn’t lingered around them long though because not only did Amy want to explore, but she also didn’t like bees in the first place. Even if they weren’t the kind that she was used to. They stung and they hurt, then they led to hospital visits and needles. She didn’t want that to happen, not that it would and she wouldn’t be telling either Rory or the Doctor that.
She shook her head at him. “You think it’s that way? Either it is or it isn’t,” Amy said. It was obvious that she was annoyed. “Now hand me over that map,” she told him. Without waiting for him to hand it over she took it from him, not having the patience to wait.
Amy couldn’t really read the map either. For some reason the TARDIS wasn’t working, but she could figure out some bits of where they might be. “We’re here,” she said, pointing to a familiar spot on the map. “So we need to go there. I’m positive of it,” Amy said, pointing to another spot on the map, an opposite direction of the one Rory had pointed to. “Let’s go.” She handed the map back over to him before setting off.

How’s everyone doing?
Oh hello, Dad! Why have you got those ridiculous glasses on?
Because they’re cool, that’s why. Glasses are cool.
You with the Doctor somewhere/when?
You’re sounding to sound more and more like the Doctor…
And yes, I am, we went off to some planet…I don’t know exactly where, but something went wrong. I…I don’t know what is happening yet.
Something went wrong? What’s going on?
Melody? You okay? You hurt? How’s the Doctor? How are you? Are you all alright?
Dad, relax. I’m alright, he’s alright, we both made it out alive, thank God. This is exactly what he was trying to avoid!
See, I’m perfectly fine. And I saved him. Stubborn time lord, he is. And my name’s River now, I’m sure we’ve been over this before.
Trying to avoid? If you think I’m worried, wait until Amy hears.
You’ll always be my Melody to me, but no matter what you or what you call yourself do we’ll still love you the same.
Yeah, he was going to visit too, but he just ran off. Please don’t bring Mum into this, I’ll tell her later…if at all. She doesn’t need to know we both nearly died again, does she?
And I know. Does that mean you wouldn’t get mad if I told you I ripped out a human heart to save him?
I won’t tell. (She’d probably kill him if she found out, though. It’s best for everyone’s safety.)
…a human heart?
….like that villain from that Indiana Jones movie? Temple of Doom, I think.
I got scared of that part and Amy would have to fast forward it.I’ll just not ask questions.
That’s exactly why we’re not talking to her about it. I just saved his life, don’t need Mum killing him for it.
…maybe. Sure. Let’s go with that. It was either that or let the Doctor die. I decided that it was the best option.
You know she’s going to find out eventually. She always does.
…well, I guess that’s good, then. But how - where - actually, no. I don’t want to know.
Well, of course I know that. I just don’t want to deal with it today. Where is she, by the way?
I’m not going to go into the details of how, Dad. Let’s just say it wasn’t fun. And it was on some planet he took me too. He really needs to watch where he takes me…that was dangerous. A bit too dangerous for my tastes, and that’s saying something.
She’s watching telly now. We’re on the TARDIS again, I just got back from Leadworth visiting my parents. You remember them from when you were Mels, right?
…wow. Too dangerous for you. Never thought I’d hear that one.
Aw, why don’t you tell her to come say hi? I came here to see the both of you. And of course I remember them.
I know. But don’t tell him that, either. He probably won’t take me out ever again. And I’m already stuck in the Stormcage enough as it is.
I’ll do that. She misses you. Well, I miss you too, of course, but that goes without saying.
Seems like you’re always out of Stormcage, though. I don’t think I’ve seen you actually spend more than twenty four hours in that cell. You’re kind of the boss of prison.
Oh, Rose? I think you mentioned her once. You sounded sad, so I didn’t ask about it.
…I actually don’t know my daughter’s age. Wibbly wobbly time things. Besides, I learned by a smack on the ear from Amy’s Aunt Sharon that you should never ask a woman what her age is. And she goes by different names, too - sometimes she’s our Melody, but sometimes she goes by River Song.
God, I wish I was twenty. Mentally, I mean. It’s a long, complicated story, but I had to wait around for a really long time - two thousand years, roughly. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t regret it. Not at all, not for a second. It was worth every minute of it.
But it does something to you, being so old. I don’t remember it all the time - most of the time, I’m just Rory, regular Rory. But sometimes something will click and I’ll just be so old and I’ll remember everything and…two thousand years is a lot to remember. Lots of things.
Don’t tell Amy I said any of this.
Oh, River? I’ve met her! Wibbly wobbly indeed.
Two thousand years…that’s longer than I’ve been alive. Well, mentally. Suppose technically I’m very young - grown from a hand just a few years ago… But mentally, I’m a little over 900 years old. And I remember it all. Some things, I wish I could forget. I’ve done so many things…
Dunno why I’m telling you this. I barely know you. You just seem so familiar to me. Must be the fact that you know me in the future?
I know I can trust you, though. Of course I won’t tell Amy any of that.
I’ve personally never spoken to Amy.
I know how you feel. Well, the thing was, I was a Nestene Duplicate, a plastic version of me since I had been erased from the universe (long story.)
I’ll think that I have it under control and that I can completely shut off the version of be that was basically made to kill, the version that had seen so much. But sometimes little things trigger it, like the smell of burning plastic, and I’ll think about World War II and the aerial raids. And there was so much fire and I was so scared…
Yeah, I dunno why I’m telling you all this either. I haven’t really told anyone before. Usually keep it under wraps, you know?
ooc:
beep boop
this is a Rory/Amy song
also a song that can be applied to basically any Doctor Who ship
don’t mind me

ooc: OH MY GOD I CAN IMAGINE IT NOW.
like they get lost or something and like a sensible person Amy is like “let’s ask for directions Rory I’m sure that we’ve passed that snake-tree thing like three times” and Rory is a stubborn male and is like “NO I KNOW WHERE WE’RE GOING THE TARDIS IS THIS WAY” and they get stressed and yell and stuff.
ooc; Yes! Let’s do it. :P I can totally see Amy getting annoyed with him. Anyway, want me to send the start of it or do you want to start it?
ooc: doesn’t matter to me. I can start it since I have some time on my hands right now :D
